Connecting with water

I love water. It has always seemed to me that in a very real way water is the “life blood” of Gaia herself. Seventy percent of the Earth’s surface is covered by water and water flows through or is stored in much of rock below the surface. Water is a major element in our weather systems through rain, snow and ice, fog, humidity, and ocean currents. Humans are approximately 60% water and all plants and animals have significant amounts of water in their systems.
And beyond the physical aspects of water are the energetic. Water, like everything else, “holds the shape” of the energy surrounding it. It thus becomes a vehicle for transporting, changing, and connecting with energy. Recent experiments by Dr. Masaru Emoto have shown this to be true in his photos of ice crystals—beautiful, symmetrical crystals form in response to words like “love” and “peace,” while jumbled, jagged crystals form in response to words like “hate” and “war.”
So, it makes a lot of sense to me to spend time mindfully connecting with the blessing of water.
One of the simpler ways that I connect with Gaia’s life blood is by simply holding my hands under running water. When I do this I focus on the physical sensations of the flowing water on my skin and connect with the source of the water, with Gaia herself, and ultimately with the Source. Not every handwashing is this mindful, but I try to remember as often as I can. It certainly helps when I’m stressed or jittery and need grounding, and I think that the general thankfulness of the ‘ritual’ also contributes to my connection with energies of abundance. At least once every couple of weeks I make a point of turning a shower or bath into a mindful reconnection as well. This doesn’t require candles or bath salts or music (thought these are very nice!). As with the hand washing, I simply take a minute or two to focus on the wonderful physical sensations of water flowing over me, then dive into (pun intended) the fullness of the energy of Gaia.
Recently I’ve had the opportunity to embrace another method of connecting to water. I’ve been in physical therapy to rehab a broken ankle. One of the therapies is walking on an underwater treadmill (no scuba gear required, the water only comes up to the middle of my rib cage, lol!). Rather than count pool tiles for 25 minutes or force myself into meaningless small talk with the supervising therapist, I decided to use this time for meditation. I’ve used the physical sensations of the water flowing over me and the movement of my body to reconnect with my physical self and through that to the many layers of my energy body. And by focusing my intent on and through the energy of the water itself I’ve been reconnecting with and grounding into the body of the Earth and with Source. It has been wonderful! What could have become mind-numbing exercise has become a true growth opportunity.
Today I decided to expand on my meditations by offering a blessing to the water in the pool. Keeping Dr. Masaru Emoto’s work in mind I focused thoughts of cleansing, healing, grace, love, peace, and gentleness on the water in the pool and hot tub. My intent was to cleanse the water of any energetic impurities and leave it energized so that all those who touch the water will feel better for having done so. My intuition tells me that I made a positive change and in a channelling session this evening our guides confirmed it. Now my husband wants to start walking underwater too!
What do you think? How do you connect with water?
Blessings,
Sarah
